Overview
A green, easy day on Kilimanjaro's slopes: walk to a 70-metre waterfall, eat a home-cooked lunch and make coffee with a Chagga family.
Materuni is a small village on the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, surrounded by banana and coffee farms. It is the perfect day out before or after a safari, or when you arrive a day early.
A local guide walks you through the village to the Materuni waterfall, where you can swim in the cool pool. After a home-cooked lunch you join a Chagga family to pick, roast, grind and taste their own coffee — with songs, stories and plenty of laughter.

Day 1
Waterfall walk and coffee with a Chagga familyMateruni
Pick-up in Arusha at 8:00 and a 1.5-hour drive to Materuni. Walk about 45 minutes through farms to the waterfall and swim if you like. After a home-cooked lunch, make and taste coffee with a local family. Back in Arusha around 18:00.

Prices & seasons
Price per person, minimum two travellers. Travelling alone? Ask us for the solo price. Children aged 3–11 pay 70% of the adult price.
Children 3–11 pay 70% of the adult rate. Infants travel free.
Booking & cancellation
Nothing is paid when you request a date. Once we confirm, a 30% deposit secures your trip and the balance is due 45 days before travel. Cancel more than 60 days ahead for a refund minus bank fees. Booking terms
Questions about this trip
Is the walk difficult?
No. It is about 45 minutes each way on village paths, with some slippery steps near the waterfall. Good shoes are enough.
Can we do this from Moshi?
Yes — Materuni is closer to Moshi, so the drive is shorter. Tell us where you are staying.
