Overview

The most scenic way to the Roof of Africa, with an acclimatisation day built in and a sunrise summit on Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).

The Machame route climbs through rainforest, heath and alpine desert to the glaciers of Kibo. Seven days gives your body time to adjust: on day three you climb high to Lava Tower and sleep low in the Barranco valley, the best-known way to acclimatise.

Your crew — a certified mountain guide, assistant guides, a cook and porters — carries the tents and food, sets up camp and cooks hot meals every day. You only carry a day pack. Summit night starts around midnight so that you reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise.
