Our classic northern circuit: Tarangire's elephants, two full days of big cats in the Serengeti and a morning in the Ngorongoro Crater.
Five days is the sweet spot for a first safari in Tanzania. You see the three great parks of the north without rushing: Tarangire and its elephants on day one, two full days on the open plains of the Serengeti, and a morning inside the Ngorongoro Crater on the way home.
In the Serengeti you stay in the central Seronera area, where lions, leopards and cheetahs are seen all year. Between December and July the Great Migration often passes close by — ask us where the herds are expected for your dates.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1
Arusha to TarangireTarangire
Morning pick-up in Arusha and drive to Tarangire for a game drive among baobabs and elephant herds. Continue to Karatu for dinner and the night.

Day 2
Into the SerengetiSerengeti
Drive over the Ngorongoro highlands, past Maasai villages, and down onto the endless plains. Enter the Serengeti at Naabi Hill and game-drive to your camp in the central Seronera area.

Day 3
A full day in the SerengetiSerengeti
Dawn and afternoon game drives in big-cat country: lions on the rocky kopjes, leopards in the trees along the Seronera River and cheetahs on the short grass. A sunrise balloon flight can be added.

Day 4
Serengeti to the Ngorongoro highlandsNgorongoro
A last morning game drive, then drive back towards the crater rim with wide views over the caldera.

Day 5
Ngorongoro Crater and back to ArushaNgorongoro – Arusha
Go down into the crater early for rhino, lion and flamingo. Picnic lunch by the hippo pool, then drive back to Arusha, arriving in the evening.

Price per person when two people travel together and share a room. Groups of 3–6 pay less per person. Children aged 3–11 pay 70% of the adult price.

Booking & cancellation
Nothing is paid when you request a date. Once we confirm, a 30% deposit secures your trip and the balance is due 45 days before travel. Cancel more than 60 days ahead for a refund minus bank fees. Booking terms
Questions about this trip
Will we see the Great Migration?
It depends on the month. The herds are in the southern Serengeti from about December to March and move north through the centre in May–July. Tell us your dates and we will be honest about your chances.
Can we upgrade the lodges?
Yes. We can quote luxury camps for all four nights — just ask when you book.
