Northern safari circuit

Overview

The Serengeti covers almost 15,000 square kilometres of grassland, river forest and granite kopjes. More than a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras move through it in a yearly circle, followed by lions, cheetahs and hyenas.

The central Seronera area has excellent game all year and is where most of our safaris stay. In the green season the herds give birth on the southern plains; from July to October they cross the Mara River in the far north.

Highlights

  • The Great Migration (herds move through the park all year)
  • Calving season on the southern plains (January–March)
  • Lions, leopards and cheetahs all year around Seronera
  • Sunrise hot-air balloon flights

Thousands of newborn calves in the south — and the predators follow.

Long rains (April–May)
