Hulipi chochote hadi tuthibitishe

Maelezo ya kila siku hapa chini yako kwa Kiingereza. Tuulize na tutakueleza kwa Kiswahili kwa furaha.

You do not need to be a mountaineer to climb Kilimanjaro. You need time, a good route and a steady pace.

Every year thousands of people with no climbing experience stand on Uhuru Peak. What they have in common is not super fitness — it is preparation and patience.

Choose enough days

Altitude, not steepness, is the real challenge. The more days you spend on the mountain, the better your body adjusts. We recommend at least seven days, for example on the Machame route, or eight on Lemosho.

Train by walking

In the two or three months before your climb, walk as much as you can — ideally on hills, with a small backpack. Long walks at the weekend help more than short gym sessions.

Pole pole: slowly, slowly

You will hear our guides say pole pole many times. Walking slowly, drinking plenty of water and eating well, even when you are not hungry, are the best ways to feel good at altitude.

Gear that matters

  • Well-worn waterproof hiking boots
  • A warm sleeping bag (rated to about -10 °C)
  • Layers: thermal base layer, fleece, down jacket and a waterproof shell
  • Warm gloves, a hat and a head torch for summit night
  • Trekking poles

Much of this can be rented in Moshi if you do not want to buy it.

Listen to your guide

Our mountain guides are trained in first aid and check how you feel every day. If they ask you to slow down or turn around, it is for your safety.
